 Hello, fellas, finally we meet again in this blog yey! In this section, PERMIAS will share about some tasty Indonesian foods. They are Satay Padang and Pisang Goreng. Dared enough to make them? Alright, I don't wanna make you wait longer, so, here they are!


1. FRIED BANANA

Fried Banana or we usually call "Pisang Goreng" is one of delicious and famous snack from Indonesia. You do not have to worry because it is really easy to make!




Ingredients:
  • 1 ripe black-skinned plantain or 4 small finger banana (make sure that the banana is sweet)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 6 Tbs. flour
  • water
  • a pinch of salt 
  • vegetable oil for deep frying
Steps:
  1. Place flour in a deep mixing bowl. 
  2. Make a well in the middle of the flour, and add egg, sugar and salt. 
  3. Add water little by little. 
  4. Whisk vigorously until batter is evenly smooth for coating and not too thin. If it is too thin, add more flour.
  5. Peel plantain or banana and cut in half lengthwise and then cut again with 4-inch width.  
  6. Dip into batter to coat generously.
  7. Heat oil in a wok or deep fryer until moderately hot. 
  8. Place coated plantain or banana in the wok or deep fryer and fry slowly until golden brown and crispy. This usually take approximately 10-15 minutes. 
  9. Remove bananas from oil, drain on paper napkins and dry well. 
  10. Serve while still warm.

 



2. SATAY PADANG 
Satay Padang or we usually call "Sate Padang" is one of delicious foods from Indonesia. This cuisine is originally from Padang, West Sumatra. I believe, after you taste it, you will be in love with it.



Ingredients:
  • ½ cup sliced onion
  • cloves garlic, sliced
  • tablespoons peanut or corn oil
  • veal or beef hearts, quartered
  • lbs. beef chuck, cut into 4-inch chunks
  • 1½ lbs. veal tongue, cut into 3 pieces
  • 1 lb. beef tripe, cleaned and cut into 4 pieces
  • 2 tablespoons fresh red hot chili, blended into a paste
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric
  • tablespoon fine chopped ginger
  • 1½ tablespoons coriander
  • teaspoon ground cumin
  • pieces of jeruk purut, or 3 square inches of lemon peel
  • salam leaves
  • 1 piece of laos
  • 1 2-inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 stalks lemon grass
  • 3 cups coconut milk
Sauce:
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • Reserved meat sauce
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ½ ripe tomato, sliced thin
  • Bamboo skewers
Steps:
  1. Fry the onion and garlic lightly in the oil in a large sauce-pan. 
  2. Add all the other ingredients except the coconut milk and mix well. 
  3. Cook with covered pan for about one and one-half hours or until the meats get soft. Then, add the coconut milk and cook for thirty minutes. 
  4. Remove the meats and reserve this meat sauce which should measure about 2 cups.
  5. To make the sauce, mix the coconut milk and rice flour into a thin paste.  
  6. Bring the reserved meat sauce to a boil and add the rice flour paste, salt, and tomato.  
  7. Cook and stir for ten minutes over a low flame until the sauce is well mixed. If it becomes too thick, add ½ cup water during the cooking. The result should be a thick, creamy, and spicy. Keep it warm.
     8.  Put 5 cubes of different meats on each skewer so that you have a contrast in textures.
     9.  Heat the skewer briefly over a charcoal fire, gas or electric broiler.
     10.Then dip it liberally into the warm   rice sauce. 
     11.The satays are usually eaten with rice rolls / rice cake.
